French star Isabelle Delobel is the proud mother of a baby boy, born last night (Thursday Oct. 1) at 11.12 p.m. local time in Sallanches.
The 31-year-old Delobel wed her long-time boyfriend, Ludovic Roux, on June 27. Like Delobel, Roux is an elite athlete. At the 1998 Olympic Winter Games he won a bronze medal as part of France's 4 by 5 km Nordic combined team.
The couple named their new son Loïs. The newborn weighed in at 3.320 kg (7 pounds and 3 ounces).
Delobel and ice dance partmer Olivier Schoenfelder are the 2008 World champions. They plan to compete this season and trained on ice until early August in their home rink of Lyon-Charlemagne.
Delobel worked with a physical condition specialist. "Because my body is changing, I do some specific exercises in order, at least once a week, to keep my balance," Delobel told IFS in July. "That will help me (too) after delivering the baby."
Delobel and Schoenfelder were assigned to the last two ISU Grand Prix events (Skate America and Skate Canada) of the season. If they are not ready, they will start their season at their 20th and final French national championships in Marseille (Dec. 18-20).
