Frances Dafoe, a two-time World pairs champion and the 1956 Olympic silver medalist with partner Norris Bowden, recently published an historical chronicle that encompasses the entire history of skating.
“Figure Skating and the Arts: Eight Centuries of Sport and Inspiration,” which was launched in November, contains almost 200 pages of photos and text that cover 800 years of figure skating. In her introduction, Dafoe describes the book as “a veritable history of skating ... from animal bones tied to the feet to the precision-engineered blades used by Olympic champions.”
