For Piper Gilles, it was the ultimate welcome to the Canadian skating fraternity.
“I still can’t stop smiling. The event was so much fun,” the 20-year-old native of Colorado Springs said after her first Canadian figure skating championships were complete.
The new ice dance pairing of Gilles and Toronto’s Paul Poirier got its first major test at the 2012 nationals in mid-January, and the young duo passed it with flying colors.
