The 2012 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in San Jose, Calif. was the scene of some spectacular performances, with Jeremy Abbott winning his third title and Ashley Wagner celebrating her first.
But it was an event that took place off competitive ice that will likely remain embedded in many hearts for years to come.
Michelle Kwan, the most successful figure skater in American history and one of the most popular national athletes of all time, was inducted into the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame during the Championships. She was the sole inductee at this year’s ceremony.
In a fitting tribute, the induction was held in the city where the iconic skater first became a household name.
