Saturday Night at the Movies

All Is Calm, All is Bright...

In celebration of the current festive season, here are a pair of classics from the past for you to enjoy.

According to legend, the former United States and 1983 World champion, Rosalynn Sumners, had planned to use a diffferent piece in the artistic portion at the 1989 World Professional Championships in Landover, Maryland.

That night however, a heavy snowfall hit the Washington DC area. Motivated by the sudden change in weather, Sumners changed into a 'Currier and Ives' inspired white satin dress with faux fur trim. From there, she surprised and delighted the audience with a magical routine skated to Irving Berlin's "White Christmas."

As amateurs, Carol Fox and Richard Dalley may have skated in the shadow of teammates, Judy Blumberg and Michael Seibert. But the couple that placed as high as fifth in the World, really came into their own as professionals.

At the 1987 World Professional Championships, their artistic program to "Silent Night" not only highlights the grace and poise of adagio dance, but it showcases their brilliant emotional connection as well.
