Kristi Yamaguchi is continuing to sport a high profile on TV. She will host and narrate the San Francisco Ballet’s performance of "The Nutcracker" on next Wednesday's "Great Performances." The PBS show is slated for Dec 17 at 8 p.m. ET in the Boston area.
Yamaguchi is the subject of the Parade Magazine "In Step With" article. The magazine is an insert in many major Sunday newspapers. "I must have been 6 or 7 when my mother took me to 'The Nutcracker' for the first time," she told James Brady. "Now for the first time I will be taking our daughters, ages 3 and 5."
Yamaguchi and husband, NHL star Bret Hedican, are parents of two daughters. Keara was born in 2003, and Emma arrived in 2005.
Yamaguchi will introduce the production of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker," set in 1915 San Francisco during the Panama Pacific International Exhibition.
In the Parade article, Yamaguchi also commented on her success on the reality TV show "Dancing With the Stars." She said when she first heard of the show she thought it was "hokey." Once involved, however, she said her competitive juices flowed. In May Yamaguchi won the show's title with professional dance partner Mark Ballas. It was the sixth season of the ABC hit show, which recently wrapped up Season 7. Yamaguchi and Ballas danced in one of the final nights of Season 7.
