Mississauga, Ont. will host the second event of the Series (Oct. 28-30).

There will be fire on ice in a very strong men’s field at this competition. With Patrick Chan, Daisuke Takahashi, Adam Rippon, Denis Ten and Javier Fernandez factored in, this could be one of the most exciting events of the entire Series. Sweden’s Alexander Majorov, fresh out of the junior ranks, will make his debut on the senior Grand Prix circuit at this event.

Rippon is happy with his first assignment. “I am excited about going to Skate Canada, because I have a lot of friends in Toronto and I know they will come to support me,” he said.

It would be impossible to predict who will claim the ladies title. Contenders include Alena Leonova from Russia, Japan’s Akiko Suzuki, one of the three Americans (Mirai Nagasu, Rachael Flatt and Ashley Wagner) and Canada’s Cynthia Phaneuf. But no doubt all eyes will be on 14-year-old Russian phenom Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, the reigning World junior silver medalist who could take it all.

The pairs event will have an exciting twist. Russia’s Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov, the reigning World silver medalists, will headline the talented lineup. Two of the top junior teams from last season, China’s Wenjing Sui and Cong Han, the reigning World junior champions, and Narumi Takahashi and Mervin Tran from Japan, the reigning World junior bronze medalists, will round out a very strong field.

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are once again the odds-on favorites to dance to gold. Their teammates Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje will be chasing a podium finish on home soil. French competitors Nathalie Péchalat and Fabian Bourzat withdrew from the event. Bourzat is suffering from bronchitis.
