2017 Skate Canada Regina, SaskatchewanRegina
, Saskatchewan plays host to 2017 Skate Canada, the second event of the Grand Prix Series.

The last time this city hosted a Skate Canada competition was in 1986 — 31 years ago. Reigning World silver medalist Kaetlyn Osmond will go up against Russia’s Anna Pogorilaya, Karen Chen and Ashley Wagner from the U.S., and Japan’s Marin Honda, who will make her senior Grand Prix debut at this event.

Her teammate, Shoma Uno, the reigning World silver medalist, will make his first appearance at Skate Canada and headlines a strong lineup in the men’s field. Canada’s Patrick Chan, who owns the 2015 and 2016 Skate Canada titles, will be in the hunt for a third consecutive crown. Medal contenders also include Jason Brown of the U.S. and Australia’s Brendan Kerry.

Germany’s Aliona Savchenko and Bruno Massot, the 2017 World silver medalists, are the top-ranked duo in the pairs field. This will mark the first time this team has competed on Canadian soil. They will need to be on top of their game with Canada’s Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford on the rebound and hungry for success this season. Their Canadian teammates Lubov Ilyushechkina and Dylan Moscovitch and Vanessa James and Morgan Ciprès of France will also be in the medal hunt. Pairs could be the most exciting discipline at this event if all teams skate well.

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, the reigning World Champions, will be chasing their seventh — and likely last —Skate Canada ice dance title in Regina. The battle in this discipline will be for the other two steps on the podium. The top contenders are Canada’s Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje and Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue of the U.S.
