2018 Skate America — the first of the six Grand Prix events this season — takes place at the Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, Washington, Oct. 19-21.

Japan’s Satoko Miyahara and Nathan Chen of the U.S., who the claimed the ladies and men’s titles last season will be looking to make it two in a row at this event.

A number of U.S. figure skating veterans have opted not to compete on the Grand Prix circuit this season including Adam Rippon, Ashley Wagner, Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani, Mirai Nagasu, Grant Hochstein and Ross Miner. None of the U.S. junior stars from last season are currently schedule to compete at Skate America, but U.S. Figure Skating has left one spot open in each discipline so the possibility exists for one or more to be added to the roster.

This event will mark the first senior Grand Prix event for a number of international skaters, such as Italy’s Matteo Rizzo, Julian Zhi Jie Zee from Malaysia (the first skater ever from the nation), Japan’s Marin Honda, Russia’s Sofia Samodurova, and ice dancers, Yura Min and Alexander Gamelin of Korea.
